French Twins Removals - Tips for an easier move
Planning your move is essential for everything to run smoothly and with minimal fuss. We’ve put together a few hints and tips to help you keep your cool.
- plan your move early and book your date as soon as you can as there can be busy times for removalists
- decide what items you no longer need or want (keep in mind whether you will have space for all these things in your new home). Arrange to give away or dispose of all items you don’t want before you move
- if there are items you want to keep but can’t fit in your new home, arrange storage
- obtain packing materials (if packing yourself, see our list)
- check your insurance policy. Will it cover the move? If not notify your removalist as soon as possible that your require insurance
- arrange the disconnection of your utilities from your old house, with reconnection at your new address (in most cases this takes at least 3 business days)
- redirect your mail
- advise any organisations of your change of address (see our list for suggestions of who you should notify)
- cancel local arrangements such as newspaper delivery, cleaners etc
- make sure your building’s strata corporation is notified well in advance of your move – you may need authorisation to move. If your building has multiple lifts, you may be able to lock off one for the exclusive use of your removalists
- book professional cleaners (steam cleaners for carpets)
- give your removalists clear instructions about what you want them to do and don’t hesitate to ask any questions
